The village of Apolakia is situated hinterland, 75 km from Rhodes town.
This small traditional village is rich in agriculture including olive groves, citrus fruits and deliciously, sweet watermelons. There is a watermelon festival held each year in July, where you can try local products made from this fruit. The coastal region is protected by the European ecological network of protected areas because of the turtles, and the wetlands that have evolved due to the dam, 2 km away. It is also a bird watchers paradise.
A major attraction is the 6th century church of Aghia Irini.
