Same as every year, the town will soon dress up in the latest medieval fashion and the streets get filled with wizards, fairies, stilt walkers and fire eaters. Knights of Saint John, too, will be there to show off their shining armour. The rumour has it, there will also be a dragon hunt.
The Medieval Rose festival has been attracting visitors from all over the world since 2006 and it’s become beloved among residents and tourists ever since. It’s not only a fun way to explore the history of the island during the medieval and byzantine period, the entire family will enjoy plentiful games, admire the magnificent dance and music shows or discover local goods at the markets. Not to mention sound and light performances, while stage of this spectacle is the Old Town itself, being a UNESCO’s World Heritage monument.
The same-themed fairs take place in various locations throughout the island, such as Monolithos and Kritinia on the west coast with breath taking sea views and landscapes, and Lindos, one of the oldest villages in Europe, having an ancient Acropolis proudly towering over this little town.
Celebrations continue to late night with delicious BBQ and traditional Greek singing and dancing.
The festival will be held in Rhodes Old Town at the last weekend of May and the dates of the fairs are usually announced locally few days before they take place.
