Ialyssos is currently the most densely populated area on the island, after Rhodes Town, with 10,000 inhabitants. It has been inhabited since ancient times and was one of the three ancient cities of the island, together with Lindos and Kameiros, which combined to form the city of Rhodes. Ialyssos’ landmark is without a doubt Filerimos, a green hill which dominates the plains below, worth visiting because of the medieval Monastery and the spectacular views to Rhodes Channel.
Its long stretch of beach is very popular in the summer especially among windsurfers and kite surfers due to the Meltemi western winds and the organized facilities for the sport.
During the 70’s and 80’s, large hotel complexes sprung up along the coastline, which make up one third of hotels on the island.
The growth of the real estate market in the area of Ialyssos directly follows the economic growth of the island as a whole. Hundreds of homes have been built here mainly due to the proximity to Rhodes town, the airport and the availability of land.
